Police allege that a woman in Mastic committed a brazen robbery of a Riverhead store clerk.
According to the report, a 35-year-old woman had physically attacked a store clerk during the course of a robbery.
A 35-year-old female has been accused of attacking a shop employee in Riverhead on Friday, January 13th. The Southampton Town Police Department reported that police were contacted concerning the incident at 11:30 am. The allegation is that the woman assaulted the clerk while attempting to steal from the store.
Police reported that when officers arrived at the 76 Gas Station at 7 Peconic Ave., the clerk stated that a female had attacked him after he confronted her on suspicion of stealing merchandise. It was further reported that the woman struck the clerk before swiping NYS Lotto scratch-off tickets and fleeing the area.
Officials reported that the clerk was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for medical attention concerning the injuries he sustained, as they apprehended suspect Janelle Edwards of Mastic at the Riverhead Train Station.
Edwards has been accused of second-degree robbery, third-degree assault, and petit larceny according to the authorities.
