A Suffolk County Police Department press release states that an 82-year-old woman, declared to be deceased at Water's Edge Rehab & Nursing Center in Port Jefferson, was discovered to be still alive upon reaching O.B. Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place on Saturday.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, with detectives carrying out a probe and the incident being forwarded to the state attorney general's office, according to police. The woman has not had her name revealed.
At 11:15 a.m., it had been proclaimed that the female was deceased and she was moved to the mortuary at 1:30 p.m., the press office declared. However, at 2:09 p.m., it was discovered she was still breathing.
The person in charge of the funeral home stated on Saturday that they have no information concerning what happened. Furthermore, when contacted, the nurse at the nursing home refused to answer any questions. Neither gave their name.
On Sunday morning, representatives of O.B. Davis Funeral Home elected not to provide any remarks.

In the month of January, a funeral home in the state of Iowa reported the discovery of a woman breathing while the body bag in which she was placed was being unzipped. This was after the Alzheimer's care facility which she was under declared her to be deceased. This revelation is recorded in the official state citation.
