A relative of an NYPD officer from Deer Park was taken to hospital critically injured on Saturday evening, after having been shot while accompanying them to purchase a car on Facebook Marketplace in Brooklyn.

Commissioner Sewell declared at a news briefing on Saturday evening at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center that the wounded law enforcement personnel, who is 26 and has been in the force for a period of five years, was assigned to the duty of patrolling. She chose not to provide the name of the hurt officer, although Mayor Eric Adams stated that he has a wife and children.

Sewell expressed a request for the public to pray for a young officer currently struggling for survival.

The exchange at the purchase became a robbery almost promptly as soon as the seller produced a gun and gunfire was exchanged between him and the officer, NYPD Assistant Chief Michael Baldassano announced at the press conference.

The shooter escaped and the police were still searching for them late Saturday night, Baldassano revealed. He was not privy to whether the seller had sustained any injuries. Fortunately, the officer's relative had not been harmed.

We have no grounds for suspecting that the vendor was aware that the off-duty policeman was a law enforcement officer, according to Baldassano. Adams noted that a dangerous individual had brandished a firearm during what was merely a routine outing for the officer in question, and he expressed confidence that the perpetrator would eventually be apprehended.

On Saturday evening, a large number of police officers congregated in the foyer of the medical facility where the officer was receiving care. By 12:15 am, his children had been escorted out in the custody of law enforcement personnel. As the family members made their way through the room, a hush descended over the crowd.

Police officers gather at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center late Saturday to support the wounded officer and his family.
