Patchogue accident leaves businesses without power

There was a hit-and-run accident in downtown Patchogue on Monday wherein a commercial truck collided with three utility poles, resulting in a power outage which necessitated the closure of some stores in the village.

Suffolk police officers from the fifth precinct's crime section are investigating the crash which caused the truck driver to flee and left about 200 customers without electricity. Most of them were back on shortly, but around 20 customers on E. Main St. and S. Ocean Ave. were without power for a longer duration.

Power had been completely restored by the early hours of Tuesday after workers toiled until late in the evening to replace three poles which had suffered damage.
