More than three months after a gunshot scared people away from a Long Island gym, police captured the suspect who discharged his weapon; Nassau County Police's inquiry was instrumental in Orane Davis, 25, of Queens, being taken into custody for trial on charges of attempted murder on Thursday, January 26th.
Law enforcement responded to a report of a shooting at the LA Fitness on Marcus Avenue in New Hyde Park at approximately 9 PM on Monday, August 1, 2022.
Upon the arrival of the officers, numerous onlookers noticed them gathering up outside the fitness center, as well as numerous people fleeing the premises, as disclosed by the police.
Upon entering, investigators discovered a bullet shell on the basketball court of the gymnasium, with no associated reports of any casualties.
Following a months-long search, Nassau County Police and the US Marshals Services ultimately located and apprehended Davis in an early morning raid at his home in Queens.Â
Police refrained from speculating on a possible motive for the shooting.
Davis has been accused of the following crimes:
Attempted homicide - 2nd degree
Attempted assault - 1st degree
Two charges of having an illegal weapon - 2nd degree
He is due to appear for arraignment on Friday, January 27, at First District Court in Hempstead.
