On the evening of Friday, February 3rd, strong winds caused power outages to affect over 1,000 customers on Long Island.

By 5:45 pm, the PSEG Long Island outage map showed that there were 1,560 customers without power in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

As a potent cold front moves through the area, it is bringing outages, wind gusts strong enough to cause harm, and frigid overnight temperatures that will dip to below zero.

The National Weather Service predicted that wind gusts on Long Island may potentially reach a high of 45 miles per hour Friday night.

Focus then shifts to the frigid temperatures, with probabilities of minimum temperatures of lower single digits at night. It was reported by the National Weather Service that Friday night into Saturday morning may have gusty winds leading to wind chill indices of between minus 5 and minus 15.

The National Weather Service commented that, though the cold snap is brief, it will be really hazardous. Given the unseasonably mild winter, people may not be accustomed to such frigid temperatures, and the wind chill can lead to hypothermia if preventive measures are not taken.

The temperature on Saturday is anticipated to be in the low 20s with clear sky conditions.

The minimum temperature on the night of Saturday into Sunday, February 4th is predicted to be in the teens, with an increase in cloud cover.

The temperature is anticipated to rise throughout Sunday, reaching a peak in the lower 40s with largely cloudy conditions.
