Police have reported that a twelve-year-old in Port Jefferson has threatened school staff members.

Yesterday morning, Suffolk Police became aware of an issue when a 12-year-old student at the Jefferson Academic Center in Port Jefferson made verbal threats toward administrative staff. As a result, an investigation has ensued.

The Department has received a report that a student had directed a verbal threat toward administrative staff members at the Spring Road school at 11:15 am. Officers from the 6th Precinct are currently carrying out an investigation into the matter according to the police.

Police did not divulge information regarding the type of hazard or other facts right away.

The center is affiliated with the Eastern Suffolk Board of Cooperative Educational Services.

Ryan Ruf, Chief Operating Officer, said in a statement, "It has been brought to our attention that one of our students at Jefferson Academic Center reportedly made verbal threats this afternoon. Promptly upon finding out, the pupil was taken out of the classroom."

Ruf mentioned that the Jefferson Academic Center personnel reached out to the student's home district and police.

"Eastern Suffolk BOCES is working in conjunction with the police in their inquiry," Ruf stated. "In accordance with the law, Eastern Suffolk BOCES is forbidden from disclosing any specific information regarding the student."
