A 63-year-old individual has been charged with threatening to cause mass destruction at an institute in Ronkonkoma.

A male suspect who has been identified as 63-year-old John Carroll was apprehended by police after they received reports that he had uttered threats of mass harm while on the grounds of Cherokee Street Elementary School in Ronkonkoma on Friday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m..

Fourth Precinct Crime Section officers from the SCPD conducted an investigation which ultimately led to Carroll, a Ronkonkoma local, being apprehended at his home at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14.

Carroll was accused of issuing a serious threat of destruction.

He was detained at the 6th Precinct through the night and was to appear in front of the 1st District Court located in Central Islip on Saturday.
